EP Review: Drake,Scary Hours 2

Global superstar Drake returns to the music scene with his new EP, Scary Hours 2. I was more curious to see what Drake was going to do with the initially planned project Certified Lover Boy. However, I went into Scary Hours 2 with an open mind. Drake opens up the project with "What's Next," a simple song where he lets his fans know what he's been up to. It's a nice intro and an excellent setup for the three-track EP.

The Lil Baby assisted "Wants and Needs" is up next. Drake's lyrics are a bit mundane since he doesn't say anything we haven't heard before. I will give Lil Baby's verse credit as he comes across as a seasoned pro and not someone who hasn't been in the industry for less than five years

Drake closes out Scary Hours 2 with the Rick Ross assisted "Lemon Peeper Freestyle." Now I will be honest and say I don't know where the song would go since Rick Ross is known for his love of Wing stop’s lemon pepper wings. Honestly, I thought Ross would drop bars about chicken wings, and Drake would croon the hook.

To my surprise, Ross spits some thought-provoking bars. In contrast, Drake comes through with one of his best verses in a while. The strength of the Drake verse is the honesty he brings to the song. While I'm not the biggest Drake fan, I will never deny his stronghold on music in the streaming age. I commend Drake for keeping the first two tracks on Scary Hours 2 under 4 minutes before cutting loose on the EP's closer "Lemon Peeper Freestyle." Hopefully, Drake carries over this same mindset to his next project.
