I’ll be honest—I’m not really into football. I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between a nickel defense and a blitz package even if you handed me the playbook. However, what truly captivates me is an underdog narrative, and that’s precisely what Prime Video Sports, NFL Films, Skydance Sports, and Vision26 Studios have created with *Saquon*. When Saquon Barkley raised the Lombardi Trophy, proudly wearing Philadelphia Eagles colors, it represented more than just a championship win; it symbolized a remarkable cinematic journey.
Directed by Alexander Pappas and produced by Martin Scorsese, this feature documentary showcases five years of Barkley’s personal video diaries. We get to witness his relentless recovery from a severe ACL injury, his struggle to regain self-confidence, and the challenging contract negotiations that ultimately led him to join a rival team. What resonates most is not just the game highlights but the authenticity displayed throughout the film. It strips away the glamor of the game to reveal Saquon as a father, husband, and friend—balancing public fame with family responsibilities while demonstrating that his impact goes far beyond mere touchdowns.
As someone who doesn’t obsess over scores or statistics, I found myself rooting for him like I would for any protagonist rediscovering their stride. With engaging storytelling and emotional depth, combined with NFL Films’ signature finesse, *Saquon* transcends typical sports documentaries. It serves as an exemplary showcase of resilience, self-belief, and determination.
Even if you’ve never followed football, this documentary is undeniably worthwhile.
